Today, I’ll be talking about a concept that I’ve spoken about in my weekly live video, and I want to unpack it a bit more here.

Even on ordinary days, when life is going well, I recommend applying slow practice and flow practice with your partner. I’ll be sharing with you ways how to implement these practices in your daily life and why they matter - especially when times get tough.

Tune in to this episode: The Key to Keeping Your Relationships Strong During Hard Times.

Key points covered in this episode:

✔️ Do slow practice with yourself. It’s impossible to pour from an empty cup. Take some me-time and do slow practice with yourself - meditate, get enough good sleep, eat cleanly, journal, read, move your body - not because you have to, but because it makes you feel good. And you feeling good makes everyone around you feel better.

✔️ What’s a way to stitch your relationship together in tough times? Touching. Lots of it. Something simple as a warm hug while cooking in the kitchen or a quick kiss before leaving for work can make a huge difference. Keeping the physical connection alive between you guarantees that you and your partner stay on the same team.

✔️ Slow practice can also prepare us for the worst. It’s easy to get stressed during high-pressure situations like travel planning, natural disasters, and sickness. To avoid this, work out in advance who’s going to handle what.

✔️ Flow practice kicks in when you’re in high gear. Being in a relationship isn’t always rainbows and butterflies. The importance of being on the same team holds true when you and your partner encounter difficult situations, like moving out in a week, suddenly falling ill, or traveling together for the first time. No matter how stressful life gets, you and your partner can efficiently flow through it together when you’ve been consistent with slow practice.

✔️ Acknowledge blow-ups and disagreements and move on. The key is to face stuff head-on, clean it up, and let it go. When you’re in a time where flow practice is required, that’s OK. Don’t force yourself to return to slow practice, as long as you do your best to slow down and recover between intense peak moments.

✔️ Anchor yourself in appreciation for the good moments. Show appreciation for the little things that you get to do in your life - like sipping a hot cup of coffee, watching the sunset, or taking a walk - and watch your life improve.
