Feb 1, 2022
Whether you're single or partnered, we all have expectations that arise on days like February 14 when there's a lot of pressure for it to go a certain way. Why not make this year different and permit yourself to plan for your own special surprise! This Valentine's day, ask directly for the experience you want to have and find yourself having way more fun.
Tune in to this episode: The #1 Key To Having a Happy Valentine's Day with Marie-Elizabeth Mali.
Key points covered in this episode:
✔️ This Valentine's, resolve to be more deliberate about creating the experience your heart desires. Whether you are single or in a relationship, don't be passive and complain when you don't have the perfect day you want.
Suppose there's a restaurant you want to go to, an activity you want to try, or you want your partner to do a particular thing in the house — tell your partner because they can't read your mind. If you're single and want to go out and have a Friendsgiving evening, ask directly. Set it up. And then you get to have the experience you enjoy.
✔️ Manage your expectations. Doing so doesn't mean diminishing them so that you don't get disappointed. The point is that you can participate and co-create the day you want to happen with the people you want to spend the day with.
Invite them to surprise you and be explicit about what you want, set up the day together as a team, and then truly be open and receptive to that surprise. Make that a practice. Whatever the results are, enjoy the experience and appreciate the effort that people you love tried to give you a good time.
✔️ Notice the little things that please you and appreciate the efforts that your loved ones show you. Begin amassing evidence that you're loved and supported, that life is for you, and that good things happen. Write down three to five appreciations a day, knowing that you are training your brain and vision to see what is working, acknowledge the good, appreciate and remember it, and have it in your arsenal when your mind forgets.
