Owning your power isn’t so much about your words or actions. It’s also not about putting yourself above others.

It’s about your choices.

It’s about choosing day to day and moment by moment to make decisions that are aligned with who you want to be and how you want to show up.

Knowing how to make an aligned choice helps you stay true to your authentic self and avoid the worst arguments.

Tune in to this episode: Owning Your Power in Your Relationships.

Key points covered in this episode:

✔️  Relationships are like a roller coaster filled with ups and downs. It’s impossible to control every event but you can adjust your responses to the situation. In times of conflict and difficulty, ask yourself:

  • “What quality will this help me develop?”
  • “How could I benefit from this, even if it’s terrible?”

These are learning opportunities and a chance for you to strengthen your ability to make powerful choices in difficult circumstances.

✔️ Know when to flee. Are you in an unhealthy, toxic, or abusive relationship? Get to safety and seek appropriate support. In an adverse situation, know when to ask for help.

✔️ Forgive your past self. Let go of shame and move forward with what you know now. Carrying self-blame only locks in your old patterns. Show gratitude for the gift of choice and informed decision-making.

✔️ Your choices are more powerful than your circumstances. Sometimes, we blame our current situation for our awful decisions. But once we acknowledge our power, intelligence, and autonomy, no matter what’s happening around us, we can unlock the secret to writing our own happy endings.

✔️ Tending to our nervous system is an important choice. Everything that happens before, during, and after a conflict is a choice. Letting your emotions ruin your whole day, not taking a break, keeping quiet when your heart wants to speak up - all of these things are up to you.

✔️ Find a small decision that aligns you with yourself. Is it stopping yourself from overeating? Catching your tongue before throwing out an insult? Deciding to walk outdoors to get some sunlight and fresh air? You have the capacity to show up differently in the world.
