Imagine buying a gorgeous home and not maintaining it at all.

For the past six months, my partner and I have been trying to catch up with repairs on our 11-year-old home in Mexico. The previous owners didn’t maintain it properly and now, emergency situations pop up almost every week.

The same can happen to our relationships. You expect things to be fine, even without maintenance, and then things fall apart.I invite you to think of treating your relationships like a home you care enough about to maintain well.

Tune in to this episode: Treating Your Relationship like Your Home.

Key points covered in this episode:

✔️ Sit down and assess. Like doing a house inspection, check areas such as communication, quality time, sex life, and finances before a breakdown happens. Or else you’ll end up in triage mode having to spend more time and energy on them.

✔️ Take care of yourself. If you’re eating healthily, getting enough sleep, and having hobbies you enjoy, you’re honoring yourself. You’ll show up in your relationships with a full cup and a nourished heart.

✔️ Find the spots to fix. Like how a house gets a squeaky floor, a leak, or a moldy wall, notice the crevices in your relationship that need repair.

  • Is there something you’ve been avoiding that’s affecting your connection with your partner?
  • Are there resentments to be released?
  • Is there something you and your partner need to talk about?

These ignored areas may be small problems now, but they’ll eventually grow and cause more stress.

✔️ Non-romantic relationships are valuable assets. Whether you have a partner or not, give home-like care to your connections with friends and family. Nurturing these relationships with curiosity and conversations – both easy and hard – can bring you closer than ever.

I wish you a beautiful, love-filled home to live in all your relationships!
